Over 13,000 Dubai taxis now accept American Express Cards
Payment choice expands for residents, tourists, and business travellers
DUBAI: American Express Middle East (AEME) has announced that over 13,000 taxis operated by franchise companies licensed by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) are now accepting American Express cards.
This major move enhances payment convenience for both local and international American Express Card Members travelling across the emirate.
The participating taxi firms include National Taxi, Arabia Taxi, Kabi Taxi, Dubai Taxi Corporation, and Metro Taxi. The development significantly boosts the number of merchants accepting American Express across the UAE, reflecting the company’s wider strategy of expanding acceptance globally.
Cardholder convenience
Graziela Martins, AEME’s Country Head UAE and Vice President Merchant Business MENA, said the partnership marks a pivotal step in increasing acceptance points across the region. “It will enable those taxi companies to attract new American Express Card Members from the UAE and around the world, while providing Card Members with even greater payment choice and convenience when travelling by taxi,” she said.
American Express has tripled its global acceptance network since 2017, now serving Card Members at more than 89 million locations worldwide. The new agreement reinforces the company’s commitment to enhancing the cardholder experience across key markets like the UAE.
RTA’s endorsement
Khaled Al Awadhi, Director of Transportation Systems at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, welcomed the agreement. “The Roads and Transport Authority supports initiatives that expand payment options in taxis, contributing to a more positive customer experience,” he stated. “It is an important milestone to meet the growing demand among the public including residents and businesses, as well as visitors and tourists.”
American Express has been present in the MENA region since 1959 and today employs over 600 professionals, offering services across its consumer card, corporate payments and merchant divisions.
